So, you happen to be in Kent over Valentine’s Day and don't know what to do or where to go?
Well, no worries! We have compiled a list of 10 romantic things that you and your partner can do while you’re in Kent!
10 – Can’t go wrong with Creams!
Why don’t you and your sweetheart get yourself a sweet treat? There are so many locations across Kent including Maidstone, Chatham, Rochester, Gravesend, Tunbridge Wells and even at the Bluewater shopping centre in Greenhithe! There are plenty of yummy treats to choose from including customisable waffles, crepes and sundaes. It’s the ideal place to treat yourself and your partner over the Valentine’s period!
9 – A trip to Canterbury Cathedral
Canterbury is a beautiful place to visit. The picturesque town is full of history and amazing spots to take selfies – trust me, your Instagram feed will be popping. And the Cathedral is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Canterbury. From the intricate designs to the astounding stories, you’ll definitely have an unforgettable time, perfect for a couple wanting to have a romantic getaway.
8 – Take a walk down to Shorne Woods Country Park!
This gem is located just outside of Medway. Sometimes it’s good to escape from the city life and enjoy the outdoors. This country park offers a variety of trails to walk on that will lead you to different areas of the park (including easy access routes), and is home to an eco-friendly visitor centre and restaurant, fishing lakes, and plenty of picnic and play areas. It’s an ideal place to take your dog out for a walk to run around and to enjoy the fresh air!
7 – Historic Rochester
Rochester is in my opinion, one of the best places in Medway. It’s a small town that hasn’t been majorly touched by commercialism and still has the charm of it’s historic past. There are many quiet coffee shops where you can sit back, relax and have a slice of cake, and plenty of shops with unique clothing and art to buy. There’s also the castle, which offers an insight to the history of the town and an amazing view from the top! It’s the ideal spot for a quiet getaway and would be the perfect spot for a cute date!
6 – Shell-tastic!
If you want to visit a hidden gem, make a trip down to Margate to visit the Shell Grotto! This is a very interesting little place in Margate, mostly due to how mysterious it is. We still don’t know who took the time to design and decorate this beautiful grotto but we are glad that they did! The whole place is quite literally covered in shells from floor to ceiling and we can only imagine that it must have taken someone years to complete it. It isn’t too far from Margate beach either, and even though it may be a bit too chilly to be sunbathing, you can’t go wrong with a trip to the beach to enjoy the local area!
5 – Feel like royalty at Leeds Castle!
Nothing makes you feel quite like a prince and princess than a visit to a castle! Leeds Castle has been described by some as “The Loveliest Castle in the World” and when you visit, I’m sure you’ll be able to see why. Leeds Castle not only offers you an insight to the history behind it, but there are plenty of activities to partake in such as falconry displays, a maze and golf ground, and over 500 acres of beautiful gardens. They offer ferry and train rides around the grounds and have an abundance of wildlife for you to keep an eye out for. Make sure you check out what events are happening at Leeds Castle, because they host festivals, firework displays and open-air concerts depending on when you plan on visiting!
4 – Grab a bite at Ela Kendro!
This Greek restaurant in Gillingham is the perfect place to go for a romantic meal! The 500+ reviews on Google say it all, Ela Kendro is home to beautifully cooked food, served by kind and friendly staff, creating a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere for you to enjoy your meal. They also serve amazing cocktails and don’t close until 11pm, so you are in no rush to finish your food. We highly recommend visiting this restaurant and we suggest that you order the halloumi and the mixed grill platter!
3 – Central Theatre
There’s nothing like a relaxing evening that involves a quiet meal out, followed by an amazing performance at the theatre, and coming back to a beautiful serviced apartment. The Central Theatre in Chatham hosts a range of performances from tribute acts to Annie to the Cabaret of Curiosities, you’re sure to find something to entertain you and your partner over the romantic period! There are plenty of restaurants and bars surrounding the area so that you can have a bite to eat or a little something to drink before or after the show to add to the romantic atmosphere.
2 – Buenos Aires
This is a personal favourite of the KH Homes team and is definitely our favourite place to grab a steak in Maidstone. It’s ideally located in the town centre, with plenty of transport links around and no more than a ten-minute walk from our Golden Heights, Manhattan Heights and Riverside apartments. (Plus, if you’re staying with us, you get a 20% discount on your food, just saying 😉 ) The atmosphere inside is perfect for a romantic date, and the food is unbeatable. We highly recommend the rump steak and the grilled salmon!
1 – Port Lympne
Of course Port Lympne was going to be at the top of our list! What’s better than spending a day surrounded by beautiful animals? Not only do they offer talks so that you can learn more about the animals, but they offer amazing experiences that you will never forget. You have the opportunity to get up close with giraffes, have monkeys climb over you, and even feed tigers (just make sure they don’t bite your fingers off)! If you want to make this Valentine’s Day unforgettable, take a trip down to Port Lympne – you won’t regret it.
